Katie Steffes focuses her practice in the areas of criminal and civil appeals in both state and federal courts, criminal defense, estate planning, probate litigation, real estate matters, and general civil litigation. Her family law practice includes guardianship/conservatorship petitions, parental termination cases, divorce and custody matters.
Katie has argued complex civil and criminal appeal cases in front of both the Michigan Court of Appeals, as well as the Sixth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. One such case handled by Katie involved an issue of law that warranted a request for Petition of Certiorari from the U.S. Supreme Court.
Katie also has successfully handled complex civil, family and probate disputes, including the successful settlement of a complex federal civil case involving several hundred parties. She is acquainted with prosecutors, attorneys and judges in the Grand Rapids metropolitan area from her experience as a court appointed criminal defense attorney. Katie regularly travels to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in her role as a CJA panel attorney handling complex criminal appeals.
